2016 Where did you go??
It feels like yesterday that I was packing up my small (teeny-tiny) apartment in Newport Beach, setting out on a road trip that would change my life. Leaving SoCal with no true destination other than Wodapalooza in Miami — which was the only second week in January. So where did the other eleven months go? And why am I not back in California like I had originally planned?
Looking back I should’ve could’ve been more diligent about Blogging and sharing my experiences throughout 2016. But what good does it do to look back and have regrets. Regrets, are not for this girl!! This past year I was truly learning to live in the moment. I was able to reconnect with my family, home town and the people in it plus travel all around the world. There’s a true freedom of being able to let go, and not trying control the outcome.
I’ve realized how much I hold onto what I HAVEN’T done, instead of being present to what I AM doing. It’s a vicious cycle of living in the past and the future. Ultimately, forcing me to always think of what could’ve been and not allowing me to truly cherish what I’m doing at the time. 2016 has really taught me to be PRESENT. That not all my work has to be perfection for it to count. Coming to terms with being a perfectionist is quite disheartening, because I know I am the furthest thing from perfect. So why must I hold myself to that standard?? It’s exhausting.
2016 I spent a lot of time in Wisconsin, and with my family. Which I haven’t done much of in the past 15 years. I’m not sure if turning 30 made me realize I don’t want to go another 10, 5, or even 1 more year and not have them in my life. There’s a harsh reality that sets in when acknowledging they aren’t going to be around forever. Perhaps it was meeting someone I wanted to spend the rest of my life with, made me grasp how important it is to have your loved ones near.
I’ve always considered my Grandma my confidant. But it wasn’t until we became roommates did I realize how much I needed her in my life. She always has the best advice and just understands me. Which is a miracle, because I am the epitome of organized chaos. She believes in me more than anyone else, I mean aren’t Grandmas the best. I was able to celebrate her starting the Food Pantry in my home town and volunteering for the past 35 years. I do have to admit she had a better social life than I did. I’d be in bed by 10pm on a Saturday and she’d still be out with her bridge club. Every morning she either had coffee/book club, yoga, the walk n’ talk group or Church. She’s a social butterfly.
As my little oh so “cool” little sister would remind me that I was now a 30 year old living with my Grandma. I have to admit; I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Below are the highlights of 2016 and which I will all be writing about here in the near future. Try to come up with some highlights of your own, it’s actually a lot of fun!
Highlights of 2016
Mission Trip to Africa — LIFE CHANGING — the ability to live with less and how fulfilling it is to be able to GIVE to others. How blessed these littles believe they are because they have their faith, not the latest iPad. Their joy is infectious and I can’t wait to go back.
If this is something that interests you check out Bill’s Tribe Uganda.
Six Week Challenge in my Hometown of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin — was pretty much a game changer. Working with these women sparked the passion within, and reminded of they WHY. Why I started the Femme Royale Movement in the first place. That hosting one day competitions isn’t enough, I want to work with women everyday, Helping women achieve confidence through CrossFit, and teach them it’s so much more than just working out. It’s about what you fuel your body with, our mindsets, and how we need to learn to love ourselves as is. It’s building bonds with women along the way, being part of a community that supports one another. Encouraging women to step outside their comforts and commit to a healthier lifestyle.
Traveling for the 2016 Event Season — Wisco – Mount Rushmore – Denver – Moab Desert – SoCal – Vegas – Lake Tahoe – Napa – Antelope Canyon – Houston – Austin – Miami – and finished off the year in SoCal for the Quad event.
Turning 30 !!! — I use to think that was SO old. Now, it holds peace in head and heart. Confidence in who I am and what I want out this crazy thing we call Life. Clarity.
Vendor at the CrossFit Games in Carson, CA — HUGE milestone as a small business.
Half Iron(Wo)Man in Kona — not only was the race the most physically challenging thing I’ve ever done, but it was by far one of the most mentally challenging as well.
Iceland + Meeting Mr. Gruver — Traveling to new places, with new friends, and being able to share new adventures with someone who wants to do and see everything there is in this world.
Moving to St Thomas USVI — Turning my vision boards into a reality.
Even though I’m living in the Caribbean, that doesn’t mean I’m chilling on the beach everyday… (ugh maybe one day!!)
